Jo's Picks Of The Month - January 2025

Jo Louks - Jo's Picks

Jo's Picks Of The Month is a regular monthly contribution, published exclusively in the Sound Café magazine with the intention of providing you with information on artists that you might not have heard of, but we think are truly worth exploring further.

BENSON BOONE

Benson Boone

Benson Boone is an American singer-songwriter from Monroe, Washington. Boone appeared on American Idol, where he briefly competed before withdrawing voluntarily.

He was very popular on Tik Tok. He signed a contract with Night Street Records, this label is owned by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds.

Boone's debut single, "Ghost Town", was released in 2021, he has since released multiple successful singles, including "In the Stars" and "Beautiful Things", which became his first song to enter the top five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 2. His debut album, Fireworks & Rollerblades was released in 2024. He has been one of my favourites for the last few years.

Hope you enjoy, "Slow it Down"

DARREN KIELY

Darren Kiely

Darren Kiely is from a small town in Ireland called Co. Cork. Kiely's folk-infused pop sound  is inherited from the love of traditional Irish music, intertwined with modern influences such as The Lumineers and Noah Kahan. At eight years old he picked up the fiddle, and then taught himself how to play guitar.

Darren began singing in 2019, getting enormous attention for his raw vocals and emotive delivery. He eventually found his way to New York in 2022 to continue developing his music.

Recently he has added a new track "Mom and Dad", which debuted in the Top 40 on the Irish Singles Chart and the top 5 on the Irish Home Grown chart. With over 6.5 million streams under his belt, he's had sold out shows at Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury Lounge in New York and The Basement in Nashville.

Hope you enjoy Slow Decay.

Jo Louks

"My collection of K-TELS playing on my portable candle record player is where my relationship with and love for music of all genres began. It continued throughout my life, from going to concerts through to my more recent luck in being involved in an album production, from studio recording to mastering. WOW! What an experience, and from it I've gained an even greater respect and appreciation for what it takes to make great music!

Couple that with my air guitar acumen, and that of course makes me a consummate professional in bringing 'Jo's Picks Of The Month' to you.

All kidding aside my repertoire of songs is vast and what an honour it is to share my picks with the readers of The Sound Cafe Magazine!" - Jo.
