Jo's Picks Of The Month is a regular monthly contribution, published exclusively in the Sound Café magazine with the intention of providing you with information on artists that you might not have heard of, but I think are truly worth exploring further.
KELSI MAYNE
I was at the PEI Cavendish Beach Music Festival in July. I had heard of a country singer named Kelsi Mayne from a friend of mine. I saw she was playing there on Sunday at noon, not the best time, she was coming in from the Calgary Stampede the day before. She made it, and it was well worth it. She had a guitar player and a cajon player, so that made travelling a little easier I'm sure. It was such a good show, more and more people came in to listen, I'm sure she will be on the big stage next year.
Kelsi is from Windsor, Ontario, across the bridge from the epicentre of old school R&B and soul in Detroit. Kelsi reveals her love for Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Destiny's Child. Mayne is an independent artist who is her own manager, label, and booking agent.
She has been dropping singles in the midst of COVID 19, and watching them soar, with Spotify streams in the six figures and 1.5 million views on TikTok in 24 hours. Kelsi is also a nurse and ended up back working in the hospital to help with Covid. She now lives in Toronto and travels back and forth to Nashville for songwriting sessions.
Maynes ultimate goal is to get signed by a major label. Lets help her get there, check out the new number one wedding song Surrender.
Kelsi says the song depicts the feeling of falling in love and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. Hope you enjoy it.
SETH POWER
Seth Power grew up just east of "The City With Soul" Jackson Mississippi. He's a talented singer songwriter, who combines modern pop melodies with soft rock and bluesy undertones. Seth utilizes a loop station, which allows him to create a larger sound than most one man shows are capable of producing. Seth landed a spot on American Idol, where he was praised by Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan following his first audition. In November 2019 he signed with Toucan Cove Entertainment. Seth has many songs out there now, check him out on you tube.
The one I picked was F.I.N.E., hope you like it.
"My collection of K-TELS playing on my portable candle record player is where my relationship with and love for music of all genres began. It continued throughout my life, from going to concerts through to my more recent luck in being involved in an album production, from studio recording to mastering. WOW! What an experience, and from it I've gained an even greater respect and appreciation for what it takes to make great music!
Couple that with my air guitar acumen, and that of course makes me a consummate professional in bringing 'Jo's Picks Of The Month' to you.
All kidding aside my repertoire of songs is vast and what an honour it is to share my picks with the readers of The Sound Cafe Magazine!" - Jo.
