Following her previous single release, Big Slow Beating Heart, (March 2024), independent singer/songwriter Tessa Lee, brings us Dear Friend, the third single from her upcoming full length release, ‘Mountains’ (due out September 2024.)
Dear Friend was written during the Tasmanian lockdown of autumn 2020, which lasted 6 weeks. Regular contact with dear friends required deliberate effort, and this isolation was being felt globally at the time. Dear Friend is a lonely plea to stick by each other, and to support one another in times of need.
Producer Jed Pickett’s Hammond organ features from the outset of this classically styled down-home rock ballad. Fintan McCullough’s slide guitar sparkles in the mix, with a solid yet relaxed rhythm section performance oozing charm reminiscent of the timeless recordings of The Band.
The track was recorded at Rolling on the River Studios, in Hobart’s Huon Valley, with producer/engineer Jethro Pickett. It was mastered by Colin Leadbetter of Leadbetter Productions. It features “The Cold Weather Band,” made up of Ian Howard (drums), Isaac Gee (bass) and Fintan McCullough (lead guitars).
‘Walking was such an important activity for so many people during those weeks of lockdown, and this video captures me and my dog (my dear friend!) in the simple act of walking in nature. My family lost our other dog late last year, so for my own selfish reasons, making a beautiful documentation of my gorgeous kelpie girl whilst we are still together (she’s getting on in age) ticked a number of boxes for this video. I wanted to capture the companionship and loyalty of a faithful dog.’
You will find a stripped back duo version of the band at The Burning of The Canes, at Eastford Creek Vineyard, Sassafras, on Saturday 22nd June.
