Epic Records/Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, is kicking off the new year with a bang by releasing the remastered and expanded 30th-anniversary edition of G. Love & Special Sauce's legendary self-titled debut album. Set to be available on all streaming, download, and digital music platforms from January 12, this edition includes previously unreleased live recordings and a newly remastered version of the classic track "Cold Beverage."
Formed by Philadelphia native Garrett “G. Love” Dutton (vocals/guitar/harmonica), Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens (drums), and James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott (bass), G. Love & Special Sauce carved out a unique niche in the '90s alt-rock scene with their fusion of roots rock, R&B, Delta blues, and hip-hop. The debut album, which earned a Gold record from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), featured breakout hits like "Cold Beverage" and "Baby’s Got Sauce," the latter being hailed by Seattle’s KEXP-FM as the top song of 1994.
As part of the 30th-anniversary celebration, the expanded edition of the debut album includes 11 live recordings captured during two sets at the Knitting Factory in New York City in July 1994. These previously unreleased live performances offer fans a rare glimpse into the band's early days and showcase the energetic and captivating stage presence that has made G. Love & Special Sauce a live music staple.
In anticipation of the album release, a newly remastered live version of "Cold Beverage" from the Knitting Factory performance is available for fans to enjoy today. The track serves as a testament to the band's ability to captivate audiences with their signature blend of genres.
The celebration doesn't end with the album release. G. Love & Special Sauce is set to embark on a 41-date North American tour, kicking off in St. Louis, MO, on January 11 and running through March 16. Longtime collaborator Chuck Treece will be joining the band on drums for these dates. Fans can also look forward to G. Love’s Pre-Show Pop-Off, an exclusive solo acoustic performance and merch package before each main show.
