City Winery NYC Presents Four Chords and the Truth: Songwriters in the Semi-Round The Canadian Confessions on June 10th at 8:00 PM!
First debuting in Toronto, Canada, in 2015, the Four Chords & The Truth multi-genre songwriter concert series has become a bucket-list favourite for songwriters to play and fans to enjoy, often selling out a year in advance before line-ups are announced.
Featuring the crème de la crème of Canada’s top and emerging songwriters ‘confessing’ the secrets behind their songs in an intimate semi-circle, the series has featured Juno and/or Grammy Award nominees and winners, Songwriter and Music Hall of Fame members, and even a few Officers of the Order of Canada.
This event marks the NYC debut of the series. In keeping with the FCaTT tradition, the line-up will be revealed a few weeks prior to show date, and the surprise guests, the night of the show.

Four Chords & The Truth is a quarterly series of “in the semi-round” sessions with leading songwriters which debuted on June 18th, 2015, at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern, a venue noted by the New York Times as Toronto’s “subterranean honky-tonk haven,” and a favourite hang-out for top-notch musicians and celebrities, and now takes place at the new state-of-the-art TD Music Hall within the historic Massey Hall / Allied Music Centre complex!
The shows are ones of intimacy, quality, and exclusivity, with each songwriter “confessing” their song secrets as the others wait their turn – or, sometimes – join in. At each show, the songwriters share one song at a time, round robin, for three rounds. In addition to the stellar line-ups, you never know who might show up and surprise the audience with a song and story!
Inspired by the “in the round” sessions at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and on Canada’s East Coast — first brought to Nova Scotia by Bruce Guthro — Four Chords & the Truth founder, singer-songwriter Andrea England wanted to established a regular grass-roots series in Toronto, but with a wider range of musical genres. “It’s rare that the general public gets to hear the bare-bones versions of songs — from different genres on the same stage — and the stories that inspired them,” said England. “When you break songs down this way, it’s easy to see that at the end of the day, they’re all ‘folk’ songs and we’re all just folk singers.”
To date, over 120 award-winning songwriters have played Four Chords and the Truth, including Grammy and Juno Award winners as well as Canadian Music Hall of Fame members, Canadian Songwriter Hall of Fame members, and even a few officers of the Order of Canada!
Andrea England, Nova Scotia-born and Toronto-based, founded and hosts the series. Andrea works successfully in two different music worlds, recording and performing as a solo roots/country artist while placing songs with pop stars and emerging country artists. She’s earned honours in the John Lennon, NSAI, USA and the International Songwriting competitions, and her songs have been recorded by pop and country stars and featured in major TV series as well as in feature films.
