Four Chords and the Truth – The Last Confessions of 2024, Thursday November 14th, Toronto

Four Chords and the Truth

Hello, music lovers!

As the crisp November air sweeps through Toronto, it brings with it an eagerly anticipated gathering of some of Canada’s finest songwriters and performers. This Thursday, November 14th, the stage at TD Music Hall will host the last Four Chords and the Truth Confessions show of 2024, and it promises to be a night to remember.

For those who don’t yet know, Four Chords and the Truth isn’t just another concert—it’s an experience, an immersion into the stories behind the songs we love, and a chance to witness music in its most raw and intimate form. Imagine being in a room where award-winning songwriters strip away the gloss and glitter to lay bare the secrets, stories, and inspirations behind their music. It’s like being invited to hear the confessions of the most talented musicians on stage today.

This Thursday’s show will feature a stellar lineup. Multi-East Coast Music Award winner and Juno nominee Kim Stockwood will debut a brand-new song, bringing her unforgettable voice and perspective to Toronto once again. Stockwood, known for her work with Shaye, has long been a favorite on the East Coast, and her return promises to be a powerful addition to an already fantastic evening.

Joining Kim is Andrew Hyatt, a Canadian Country Music Association Award winner whose knack for storytelling and heartfelt performances has earned him a solid place in the Canadian country scene.

And for those who have yet to experience the wonder of Joce Reyome, Music PEI’s Entertainer of the Year, you’re in for a treat as Joce makes their Toronto debut.

Adding even more magic to the mix is recent Juno nominee Katie Tupper, who will take her seat in the highly anticipated TikTok Seat. Each of these artists brings a unique voice and perspective, ensuring a night that celebrates the diversity and depth of Canadian songwriting.

Your host for the evening, Four Chords founder Andrea England, has created a space that Toronto has come to love deeply over the years. Andrea, a Nova Scotia-born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter herself, established Four Chords and the Truth in 2015 at the Dakota Tavern, Toronto’s renowned “subterranean honky-tonk haven” (as aptly described by The New York Times). That cozy space was a place where top-notch musicians gathered to share stories and songs, an “in the semi-round” style inspired by Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe and the East Coast’s intimate music sessions pioneered by Bruce Guthro.

The heart of Four Chords and the Truth lies in this semi-round format, where songwriters take turns performing one song at a time, going around the circle for three rounds. Each musician “confesses” the backstory of their songs, pulling listeners into the intimate world of songwriting. These sessions are raw, real, and often spontaneous, with performers sometimes joining each other on the spot, creating unforgettable collaborations.

The TD Music Hall, nestled within the historic Massey Hall / Allied Music Centre complex, is now the home for this magic, offering a state-of-the-art backdrop for what has become one of Toronto’s favorite gatherings for song lovers. It’s a setting where every note, every strum, and every lyric resonates with the history and heart of the music scene.

Andrea has curated each evening with a careful balance of talent, diversity, and surprise. Since its inception, Four Chords and the Truth has brought over 120 award-winning songwriters to its stage, including Grammy and Juno Award winners, Canadian Music Hall of Fame members, and even a few officers of the Order of Canada. The show has sold out every single time since Season Three — and with good reason. When you’re at Four Chords, you’re not just watching a performance; you’re part of a shared experience, part of a community that celebrates storytelling, vulnerability, and connection.

For those attending this week, there are a few added treats in store. This Thursday’s show will give fans the first chance to grab tickets for next year’s performances before they go on sale to the general public. And for those who love music with a purpose, Unison Fund’s new guitar string bracelets will be available for purchase — giving back to an organization that supports Canadian music professionals in need.

Don’t have your tickets yet? There’s still time, but you’d best hurry! Four Chords shows have a habit of selling out in advance, and this will be the last Toronto show for 2024. So, if you’ve been meaning to catch one of these magical evenings, now’s your chance. You can grab tickets and join us for what promises to be an evening of laughter, tears, and inspiration as Toronto’s music community comes together once more to celebrate the art of songwriting.

As the stage lights dim and the musicians take their seats, they’ll be sharing more than just songs — they’ll be sharing pieces of themselves. And, as Andrea England would say, when you strip a song down to its essence, you can see that, in the end, they’re all just folk songs, and we’re all just folk singers.

So, mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and join us at TD Music Hall for a night that’s bound to be unforgettable. The Four Chords and the Truth family can’t wait to welcome you.
