Canadian Roots/Americana singer-songwriter, Jade Turner, is a multi-award winning artist whose powerful, soaring voice and masterful storytelling captivates listeners with every song. The 23-time Manitoba Country Music Award nominee, is a member of the Misipawistik Cree Nation and draws deep inspiration from the cultural tradition of storytelling.
Her authentic, relatable catalog of music has earned her notable accolades, most recently as a semi-finalist in SiriusXM's 2024 Top of The Country competition. Just this year, Turner performed live across Canada on Breakfast Television, appeared on eTalk for the second time, and received the 2024 Manitoba Music Kevin Walters Memorial Songwriting Award. With a distinct focus on narrative and the ability to convey deeply resonant stories through song, Turner has solidified her place in the Canadian music industry as a powerful storyteller and vocalist who creates a compelling musical repertoire with her blend of the Americana, Roots, Country, and Rock genres.
Her songwriting navigates various themes, spanning from lighthearted to intensely meaningful, all expressed through her powerful voice which transitions with ease from gritty and raw to spirited and dynamic. With her third studio album set for release in early 2025, Turner is sharing a brand new single "Wandering Soul" - a slow-tempo, emotive track that shares the meaningful, relatable reflection of the journey to finding oneself again. “Wandering Soul” was released on Friday, August 23 2024.
“‘Wandering Soul’ is about leaving a comfortable situation and grieving that loss to find yourself again.” - Jade Turner
Written by Jade Turner, “Wandering Soul” was produced by Turner’s longtime collaborator, Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies, Doc Walker), who is also featured on guitar alongside Stephen Arundell (William Prince).
Capturing the journey of personal exploration to rediscover oneself following the end of a long-term relationship, Jade Turner’s “Wandering Soul” extends a melodic, thoughtful glimpse into the winding road of change. Mellow and hopeful, the instrumentation captures the essence of Turner’s emotional journey back to herself as she reflects on the process of rediscovery - not the feeling of loss. Opening with a slow acoustic guitar and Turner’s gentle vocal, the song builds as the subject moves forward in their journey back to themselves, supported with the addition of drums, electric guitar, and layered background vocals. In her most lyrically vulnerable song to date, Turner reveals the small, meaningful ceremonies she performed in secrecy as she sought to find herself again. Known for her immense vocal power, Turner showcases another side of her vocal versatility in the soft, delicate delivery of “Wandering Soul”, demonstrating that strength can also be felt in sensitivity. An anthem for anyone who has felt as though they lost themselves, Turner’s latest track offers a musical hand on the journey back to who they once were.
With a natural gift for telling stories through music, rising Canadian Country artist Jade Turner continues to share and support the Indigenous culture that inspires her. Recognized for her original songwriting and stunning music videos, the member of Misipawistik Cree Nation has already established a diverse audience attracted to her energetic stage presence and singles like “Somehow Someone,” “Hangover Blues,” and “Worth.” Her 2017 debut album, North Country, was named Best Country Album at the Indigenous Music Awards in 2017 where the cinematic music video for her single, “Worth”, also received a nomination.
Turner was raised in northern Manitoba, where local radio stations played Indigenous music and songs by country artists. Because she doesn’t play an instrument, Turner knows that her songwriting approach is unusual, yet it’s already earned her the 2018 title of Emerging Artist of the Year from the Manitoba Country Music Awards, and an incredible 18 other MCMA nominations. In 2022, Turner received a nomination from the Western Canadian Music Awards in the Indigenous Artist of the Year Category, as well as three nominations at the Manitoba Country Music Awards.
In 2023, Turner released "Deadweight", a deeply personal song about the frequent cruelty experienced on social media. The tune was penned with Canadian artist Crystal Shawanda, who Turner credits as being the artist who inspired her most to pursue a music career. Following its release, Turner appeared on eTalk and SiriusXM, and that same year was nominated for four Manitoba Country Music Awards, bringing home two in the categories of Song of the Year, and Single of The Year. As a finalist in SiriusXM's 2024 Top of The Country competition, Turner recorded "That Wind", which was released in May 2024. Turner has announced her third album, Breathe, which will be released in the Winter of 2025.
