Linc Phelps is one of those salt of the earth people that is known far and wide in the tight knit Australian country music industry. You know, a real good bloke. A great performer and singer and a bit of a legend if being honest.
Award winners, Melody Moko and Jen Mize constantly sing his praises as one of Australia’s ‘best kept secrets’. It was his down to earth nature and incredible talent that led to him being offered a deal with new indie label, Nybor Records. Phelps joined the label roster alongside the award winning, Darlinghurst in May 2024, dropping his first released under the new deal, “Hundred Percent”, just weeks later.
Blending Phelps’ signature laid back swagger with country, blues, Americana and a dash of old school Aussie rock for good measure,“Hundred Percent”, was tracked live with his touring band at QUT Studios in Brisbane with hitmaker, Gavin Carfoot, overseeing production duties. Phelps says he and Carfoot have become great mates since bonding over their mutual appreciation of beards, KFC and country music.
“Hundred Percent” is the result of Carfoot making light of just how much Phelps uses the phrase in his day-to-day conversations. The pair realised the sentiment behind the catchphrase made for a great song.
“Whatever you do, be committed. For me personally it’s about giving it my all in my work, writing songs, playing gigs and being a husband and dad”, says Phelps. “If you move through life in that authentic way, you’re never left wanting or wondering”.
It’s a song and message that sums up not only who the Gympie born and bred Phelps is as a human being but also the balance of his forthcoming album, “Faith & Sweat”. The album shifts through universal themes such as joy, tragedy and triumph highlighting his determination and resilience. It’s an authenticity that speaks so loudly of Linc Phelps’ character and his attitude towards being a songwriter, singer, performer, husband, father and friend. It’s quite simply ‘hundred percent’ Linc Phelps.
